Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before renting a trailer from Wylie Rents.

What do I need to rent a trailer?

You’ll need a valid driver’s license, a vehicle capable of towing the trailer, and a credit or debit card for the refundable security deposit. We’ll verify that your vehicle’s hitch ball matches the trailer’s coupler at pickup.

What hitch ball size do I need?

It depends on the trailer: Utility trailers require a 1-7/8″ or 2″ ball. Dump trailers require a 2-5/16″ ball. Car haulers require a 2″ ball. Specialty trailers vary — call us to confirm.

Most trucks and SUVs have a hitch that works with our trailers. Not sure? Text us a photo of your hitch and we’ll confirm.

Do I need a special license to tow a trailer?

For our standard trailers (utility, dump, car haulers), a regular driver’s license is all you need. Specialty trailers may have different requirements — call us to confirm.

How much is the deposit?

The refundable security deposit is collected at pickup. It’s returned in full when the trailer comes back clean and undamaged, on time.

Is the trailer insured?

Wylie Rents carries liability coverage on our equipment. However, damage to the trailer during your rental is your responsibility. We recommend checking with your auto insurance provider — many personal auto policies extend coverage to rented trailers.

Can I keep the trailer overnight?

Yes. Daily rentals run for 24 hours from pickup. If you need it longer, ask about our weekend and weekly rates — they’re a better value for multi-day jobs.

What if the trailer is damaged during my rental?

Call us immediately at [PHONE]. Do not attempt to make repairs yourself. Damage beyond normal wear is the renter’s responsibility and will be assessed before the deposit is returned.

What if I have a problem on the road?

Call [PHONE]. We’ll do our best to help you troubleshoot. We recommend having roadside assistance coverage through your auto policy or AAA before hauling.
